State Duma Deputy Ruslan Balbek commented on Wednesday, April 28, the preparation in the European Parliament of a draft resolution calling on the EU authorities to stop the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.

According to the parliamentarian, the call to stop the gas pipeline is not a concern for Europe.

“This statement is not surprising. Another question is how European politicians will behave … And voters are watching this with bewilderment, not understanding why they have to pay for someone’s political games out of their own pockets, “Balbek said in an interview with RT.

Earlier on the same day, the European Parliament called on the EU to stop the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, according to the kp.ru hut.

“[Европарламент ] insists that the EU should reduce its dependence on Russian energy, and therefore calls on EU institutions and all member states to stop the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, – said in a resolution that could be adopted on Thursday.

Earlier, on April 26, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that SP-2 is important for Germany from the standpoint of ensuring energy security and is not a lever of influence on Russia.

On April 20, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany had made a choice in favor of building Nord Stream 2, despite criticism from the EU countries. She noted that there is a political struggle around the project.

Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea with the aim of direct and reliable gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The United States, Ukraine, the Baltic States and Poland are opposed.
