Another man, detained in the case of the attempted murder of the Minister of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia Igor Naniev, was beaten and taken to hospital. This was announced on August 31 by the Commissioner for Human Rights under the President of the Republic Inal Tasoev.

“On August 28, a tragedy occurred in our republic – our compatriot Inal Dzhabiev died. Today I also met with another victim, the suspect Nikolai Tskhovrebov, who is being beaten in the hospital. He said that for four days he was severely beaten, told about the methods of interrogation that were used against him. These are methods that are classified throughout the world as torture – blows with truncheons, torture with putting a bag on the head and others, ”TASS said.

Tasoev also said that he reported on the results of his work to the President of the Republic, as well as to the Prosecutor General’s Office. He also expressed confidence in the need for a “thorough and objective investigation” of the incident, so that this does not happen in the future.

Earlier on August 29, the South Ossetian leader Anatoly Bibilov dismissed the head of the republic’s Interior Ministry Igor Naniev from his post while the investigation into the death of a suspect in the assassination attempt on the minister.

Several hundred people gathered in the center of Tskhinval on August 28 after reports of the death of a local resident, Inal Dzhabiev, who was detained on suspicion of attempting to assassinate Naniev. The protesters demanded the government’s resignation.

Dzhabiev died in jail. The prosecutor’s office opened a case on abuse of office by employees of the department, according to Sputnik Ossetia.

The attack on the Minister of Internal Affairs of the republic took place in Tskhinval on 17 August. They fired at his company car. Naniev was not injured. A criminal case was initiated under articles on attempted murder of a statesman and on illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons.
