The race for the coronavirus vaccine will peak in January 2021. This was stated by Dmitry Kulish, professor at the Skoltech Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, at the online discussion “Race for a vaccine – what’s new?” Organized by the Harvard Club of Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, at this time the first reports on the third phases of trials of a number of vaccines will have to be released and the first information on possible strong and dangerous side effects will appear. However, he noted that data on the effectiveness of vaccines will be available later.

Kulish also commented on the launch of mass vaccination against coronavirus, noting that it could begin after evaluating side effects in early 2021.

The scientist recalled that the use of adenoviral vectors in vaccines is not well understood, and they can have more severe side effects than recombinant and whole-virus vaccines. However, Kulish said that the danger of an adenovirus vaccine is absolutely balanced by the danger of a coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus vaccines may be less effective for obese people. Information about this appeared in the journal Nature, and scientists interviewed on November 5 by Izvestia confirmed this data.

At the same time, there is no official data, confirmed by research, about the ineffectiveness of coronavirus vaccines for people with obesity. Scientists will need to obtain this information during clinical trials.
