Analysts have compiled a rating of the most popular combinations of first and last names of residents of Volgograd based on data from the social network “VKontakte”.
The research was conducted by students of the course “Data storytelling” in Netology. More than 35 million names were analyzed in 16 cities with a population of one million.
It turned out that the most popular names and surnames in the largest cities were Ivan Ivanov and Maria Ivanova – in Volgograd they were counted 5.9 thousand and 1.5 thousand, respectively. The prevalence of the masculine combination is quite understandable – in Russian “Ivan Ivanov” is used to refer to an unknown person, like John Smith in the English-speaking world.
It is also noteworthy that men more often than women hide behind pseudonyms: such as Artur Pirozhkov, Alexander Nevsky, Vasily Terkin or Yegor Creed. In Volgograd, analysts have counted 1.6 thousand Sergeev Ivanovs, 1.6 thousand Aleksandrov Ivanovs and 1.4 thousand Ivanov Petrovs.
Ekaterin Ivanovs, living in Volgograd, turned out to be 986, 837 Helen and 863 Olga Ivanovs, as well as 499 Mari Petrovs.
