Employees of the Belarusian OMON police detained two manufacturers of Molotov cocktails in Minsk on the evening of 13 August. This was announced on her Telegram channel by the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the republic Olga Chemodanova.
According to her, the detention of two young people, 18 and 19 years old, took place at 19:40 on Yakubovsky Street. The men were found with a 10-liter canister of gasoline and a bottle of vegetable oil.
At the moment, two detainees are in the Frunzensky police department of Minsk. Law enforcement agencies are deciding whether to recognize them as suspects in a criminal case initiated over the riots, added the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
Mass protests have been taking place in Belarus since August 9, on that day, presidential elections were held in the country. The incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko, according to the CEC, received 80.08% of the vote, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was supported by 10.09% of voters. Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters did not recognize the results of the vote.
After that, people who disagreed with the election results began to take to the streets. They are opposed by the security forces. In the clashes, there are casualties on both sides.
