Actor Mikhail Efremov does not suffer from alcoholism. This was stated by his lawyer Elman Pashayev.
“Well, what drinks sometimes, is he the only one in Russia who drinks alcohol? I myself, as a lawyer, sometimes use it, ”the Izvestia correspondent reports.
“Why do you say he has alcoholism? Did you pour him a drink? ” The lawyer asked the journalists.
It is “too early” to talk about the artist’s drug intoxication at the time of the accident, the lawyer said.
Earlier, on July 30, the court extended Efremova’s house arrest for six months, until January 22, 2021.
The first hearing on the merits of the case against the actor accused of committing a fatal road accident in the center of Moscow will be held on August 5 at 10:00 Moscow time.
Lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky, representing the victims, said that the court refused the artist a two-hour walk during house arrest.
The prosecutor asked for the extension of house arrest to the artist during today’s preliminary hearing on the accident. Pashayev opposed and asked to allow the actor to walk for two hours.
On the same day, the lawyer said that Efremov would not ask the court to consider the case in a special order, since this is possible only with an admission of guilt, and the actor will not admit it.
The accident happened on Smolenskaya Square in the center of Moscow on June 8. Efremov’s SUV drove into the oncoming lane and rammed a Lada van head-on. The driver of the domestic car courier Sergei Zakharov was seriously injured and died from his injuries in the morning of the next day at the N.N. Sklifosovsky.
The examination showed the presence of alcohol and traces of drugs in the actor’s body at the time of the accident. On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was opened under Part 4 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Violation of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles, committed by a person under the influence of alcohol and resulting in the death of a person.” The prosecutor’s office has already approved the indictment in this case.
Efremov remained silent for some time after the incident, but then published a video in which he apologized and offered compensation to the family of the deceased. In turn, the lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky, who represented the family, announced the refusal of clients from the proposed compensation. Later, their other lawyer, Tatyana Golovkina, said that the actor did not offer monetary compensation to the relatives of the deceased.
The victims in the case are the official wife of the deceased, his brother and two sons. Zakharov’s common-law wife also asked to recognize her as a victim. This issue has not yet been resolved.
