Allergist immunologist Vladimir Bolibok explained that the effectiveness of antibodies in protecting the body from coronavirus infection depends on several factors, but even high values for the presence of antibodies should not give a false sense of security. He spoke about this on Tuesday, November 3, in an interview with Sputnik radio.
According to the specialist, the protective barrier can be strengthened with the help of vaccination, and those who have had COVID-19 and then were vaccinated will receive the best protection. For them, as the doctor noted, the vaccine will serve as a “revaccination”.
“They will receive an antigen, the body will react to it, and their antibody titer will rise even higher than after a previous illness. They will receive more protection, ”Bolibok said.
As the expert explained, the production of antibodies also depends on the form of the course of the disease. Those who have been ill in a mild form or, conversely, in the most severe, the antibody titer is weak and they definitely need vaccination.
On November 2, Pavel Volchkov, head of the MIPT genomic engineering laboratory, told Izvestia that humoral immunity in humans will not disappear if antibodies to SARS-Cov-2 decrease.
Humoral immunity is the defense of the body against infections, which is carried out by antibodies contained in the blood and other body fluids. This is one type of immune response.
