The fight against the coronavirus pandemic requires significant restrictions on social life. The closure of a number of businesses, theaters, museums, exhibitions, gyms, restaurants means a loss of income for many individual entrepreneurs.
With the outbreak of the first wave of the pandemic last spring, the number of individual entrepreneurs who had to seek social assistance has skyrocketed. A total of 81,100 self-employed people have applied for temporary basic social security. This is 73,104 applications more than in the same period last year. The increase was 1,014 percent, according to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, citing the Federal Employment Agency’s response to a request from the Left Party.
