At a meeting of the Commission on Pardons in the Smolensk Region, petitions were supported to cancel the conditional sentence of two persons sentenced to sentences not related to imprisonment. This was reported by the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Smolensk region.

Convicted under Art. 219 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Violation of fire safety requirements” – elderly people with health problems. Repentance, awareness of their guilt and short suspended sentences set by the court were sufficient for the members of the Pardon Commission to support the petitions of these convicts for pardon before the governor of the Smolensk Region.

The head of the region supported these petitions and sent them to the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation for a final decision.

These are the first supported requests for clemency in the Smolensk region over the past three years.
