The Russian government will allocate almost 6 billion rubles to suburban passenger companies to maintain electric train routes and another 5.5 billion rubles to support long-distance passenger trains. This was stated by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, April 27.

“This will allow not only preserving, but also expanding the most demanded directions of electric trains, including to places of rest,” the website of the government quoted Mishustin as saying.

At the expense of this money, it is planned to preserve affordable tickets, renew the rolling stock, including the purchase of new, more modern and comfortable cars.

The chairman of the Cabinet noted that the upcoming May holidays will be a time for many Russians to travel to their dachas, to visit relatives and friends in other cities. According to him, more and more Russians travel around the country, including by train.

“It is important that it is safe and comfortable both on commuter routes and over long distances,” he said.

In early February, the Moscow Region government reported that this year in the Moscow region eight stations will be reconstructed on the Savelovsky, Paveletsky, Gorkovsky and Kazan railways. All work will be performed according to the investment program, which is being implemented jointly with Russian Railways.

In November 2020, Izvestia reported that domestic tourism, including railway tourism, is becoming more popular in Russia. JSC “Federal Passenger Company” considers projects to develop railway tourism in the regions, charter flights, increase the attractiveness of trips for organized groups of travelers and develop a concept of rail cruises, in which the train will become an alternative to the hotel, as promising.
