Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, criticized the decision of the Ukrainian court to arrest in absentia 12 Russian planes making passenger flights to Crimea. According to him, Ukraine will not achieve any effect by such actions. On Thursday, April 15, the politician told the RT channel about this.

“They also need to demonstrate some kind of work. They themselves understand that their actions cause only a smile and irony, but nevertheless they have to do something. I think that in this way they remind of themselves that they are allegedly fighting for the “de-occupation” of Crimea, while not achieving any results, “Tsekov explained.

The parliamentarian noted that such actions of the Ukrainian side do not carry any damage. The Ukrainian court ruled “publicly”, and “the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol” is a “sham organization”, the senator concluded.

Earlier that day, a Ukrainian court arrested 12 aircraft of the Russian airline in absentia for passenger transportation to Crimea. According to the Ukrainian department, the planes “were used to transport passengers from / to the checkpoint“ Simferopol-avia ”closed by Ukraine.

In September 2020, a Ukrainian court arrested 65 Russian planes making regular flights to Crimea. In November, Ukraine arrested another 44 aircraft in absentia. Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, carriers face up to 15 years in prison.

More than 200 Russian airliners are already under arrest.
