The consumption of red meat leads to thrombosis and strokes, said the doctor of clinical laboratory diagnostics, Alexander Karasev, on the air of Moscow Says. He advised citizens over 45 years old not to consume more than 150 grams of red meat twice a week. He noted that some bacteria make the toxic compounds trimethylamine from red meat, cheese, eggs and carnitine.
The liver tries to destroy trimethylamine, oxidizes it, and trimethylamine oxide is obtained. It damages the surface of blood and lymph vessels.
If, in addition to vascular damage, there are fluctuations in glucose levels, then an atherosclerotic plaque appears, which can potentially lead to thrombosis. “Then there is a stroke and a heart attack. There is a direct connection with microbiota, ”says Karasev. He stressed that the above red meat consumption rate is a WHO recommendation.
Karasev believes that older people need to be tested for microbiota in order to eliminate the risks of thrombosis.
