Russia is behaving cautiously with regard to the situation with Belarus, a direct military threat does not threaten that, said the head of the Czech Foreign Ministry Tomas Petříček. However, the threat is seen to be a gradual limitation of the sovereignty of Belarus.
To put pressure on Alexander Lukashenko, it is necessary to support civil initiatives, the church and independent trade unions in Belarus. Then Lukashenka can be forced to negotiate with the opposition in order to ultimately avoid violating the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“It is necessary to prevent a situation when the only way out for Lukashenka is to renounce his sovereignty,” Petršicek said. And he immediately added that Lukashenka had lost touch with reality during the pandemic. On the whole, the situation in the republic is of a turning point, as more and more citizens are involved in the protest.
