A pathogen of a dangerous disease – mycoplasmosis – was found in a chicken of the “Holosheika” breed raised in the Pskov region. As was told “MK in Pskov” in the department of veterinary immunodiagnostics of the Pskov regional veterinary laboratory, the virus was found in the DNA of the chicken.

The medical facility explained that respiratory mycoplasmosis (otherwise called air sac disease) is a disease that affects chickens and turkeys. Poultry infected with the virus may die on its own, or may lose embryos. In addition, mycoplasmosis can delay the development and growth of chicks. In birds affected by mycoplasmosis, body weight gain decreases and egg production falls. Chicks, among other things, develop tracheal wheezing and rhinitis.

According to experts, outbreaks of the incidence of mycoplasmosis are recorded mainly in the spring-autumn period. Those farms are at risk where the conditions for keeping poultry indoors are not respected.

“Is mycoplasmosis of chickens dangerous for humans? No, not dangerous. However, chicken meat must be thoroughly cooked. Incinerate byproducts and affected organs. It is strictly forbidden to eat the meat of dead birds, ”the veterinary laboratory experts warned.
