TASS correspondent Ivan Kolyganov was detained in Minsk. His colleagues from the news agency reported this on August 30.

Kolyganov, according to their information, has already been taken to the Oktyabrskoye police station. He only arrived in the capital of Belarus on Sunday to cover events in the country.

All this time, according to TASS journalists, Kolyganov was in his room at the Minsk Hotel and did not go out into the street.

Earlier on the same day, in the center of Minsk near the building of the State Security Committee, there was a short skirmish between protesters and security officials in plain clothes. Prior to this, law enforcement officers began to detain protesters in the area of the city’s Independence Square.

In the middle of the day, large detachments of servicemen and riot policemen occupied several main points in the center of Minsk, including the area near the Government House.

Several days ago, representatives of various media were already detained in Minsk. Some of the journalists were deported to Russia.

Since August 9, protests have not stopped in Belarus. On that day, presidential elections were held. According to the Central Election Commission, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko won over 80% of the vote. Citizens who disagreed with this result began to take to the streets. They faced opposition from security officials.
