Victoria, 43, eldest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and Daniel, 47, “are doing well” and “showing only mild symptoms,” the court said in a statement.

Their children – Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar – have been placed in home quarantine.

The princely couple are not the first of the Swedish royal family to have tested positive for the coronavirus: last November, Prince Carl-Philip, Victoria’s younger brother, and his wife, Princess Sofia, were also affected. by the virus.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, who were not infected with the virus, had been vaccinated in mid-January.

Since the start of the pandemic, Sweden, with its more “flexible” approach than elsewhere in Europe in the face of COVID-19, has recorded more than 707,000 contaminations and 13,111 deaths for 10.3 million inhabitants.

If the strategy remains less strict than in many countries, the kingdom has tightened the screws since November in the face of the strong second wave, with several series of measures restricting in particular public gatherings (no more than eight people) and tables in restaurants – or switching to distance education in high schools.

The country is currently trying to contain a third wave.
