On August 8, Tver, as well as throughout Russia, celebrates the Day of the Athlete. Governor Igor Rudenya congratulated the inhabitants of the region on this holiday.
– The Tver Region is proud of the outstanding masters of sports who have increased the glory of our country as a great sports power: Viktor Kapitonov and Antonina Seredina, Viktor Denisov and Antonina Ordina, Yuri Mikhailov and Ilya Kovalchuk. Today, the traditions created for decades are continued by a new galaxy of talented athletes and mentors. In the Upper Volga region, special attention is paid to the formation of a modern infrastructure for the development of mass and professional sports, improvement of the material and technical base of the industry’s institutions, popularization of an active and healthy lifestyle, – says Igor Rudeni’s congratulation.
Sports events are held in Tver and the region in honor of the Athlete’s Day. So, in the sports and recreation center named after Sultan Akhmerov, from 11 o’clock, competitions of national and non-Olympic sports are held: kettlebell and goroda sports, sambo, rounders, tug-of-war, mini-golf, arm wrestling.
Also at 11 o’clock in Tver at “Yubileiny” the “Orange Ball” started, and on the Volga – the rowing competition “Challenge of the Tver Dragon”. The city beach is also noisy – there are beach volleyball competitions, and a little further away – basketball, tennis, volleyball.
In Tver, for the first time, it will be possible to take part in the ancient Cossack games at the hippodrome – starting at 12 noon.
