On August 9, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Smolensk region reported that the police detained a Yartsev resident suspected of stealing from a car. A resident of the regional center, whose phone was stolen in the village of Yasnaya Polyana, contacted the duty unit of the Russian Interior Ministry’s department for the Smolensk region.
In the course of operational-search activities, the police received information that a 29-year-old resident of Yartsevsky district is currently using the phone. Officers of the criminal investigation department took him to the police station to find out the circumstances of the incident. The young man explained that he was visiting friends in the village of Yasnaya Polyana, went out for a walk, saw an unlocked car, inside which he noticed a phone and took it for himself.
The interrogators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Smolensk District have initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime provided for in Part 1 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft”. The sanction of this part of the article provides for the maximum punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to two years.
