Senator from the Republic of Crimea, member of the Federation Council committee on international affairs Sergey Tsekov proposed to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to create a platform in the country to recognize the Russian status of the region.

According to him, all the conversations and hypotheses on the return of Crimea to Ukraine are untenable, and this will never happen. According to RIA Novosti, he urged Zelensky to think about creating a political discussion platform in Ukraine, which will be engaged in establishing relations with Russia and finding solutions to recognize the Russian status of the peninsula.

Tsekov also said that the creation of any other site, the ultimate goal of which is not the recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation, is a waste of time. He called such initiatives of the Ukrainian authorities hopeless and failed, and also stressed that the entire civilized world knows that Crimea is the legal and historical territory of Russia.

Earlier, on August 25, Zelensky, in an interview with Euronews, acknowledged the absence of an effective international platform for discussing the issue of Crimea’s ownership, but announced his intentions to return the peninsula.

On August 20, the head of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, said that the phrase “return of Crimea” used by Ukrainian politicians should be included in the political dictionary as a synonym for the expression “monkey labor.”

Crimea returned to Russia in 2014 following a referendum in which 96.77% of the peninsula’s residents voted for reunification. Kiev refuses to recognize the voting results and is making plans to “return” the region.
