Geophysicists have predicted many powerful earthquakes in the next 20 years. Experts told about this to the URA.RU news agency. The representative of the Center for Geophysical Research Viktor Bokov said that earthquakes occur as a result of the impact of the atmosphere on the earth’s crust. Sometimes the soil sags by 40 cm in places of tectonic plate faults. It all depends on the form of atmospheric circulation. There are two of them – one is zonal, the second is meridian. That is, in the first case, the air mass moves from East to West, in the second case – from south to north.
Now the meridional form prevails. And this has a significant impact on the occurrence of earthquakes. Bokov believes that this state of affairs will continue for another two decades.
