Scientists at Imperial College London have calculated the case fatality rate from COVID-19. The corresponding report is published on the website of the educational institution.

The case fatality rate is a key statistic for assessing COVID-19 and is constantly discussed throughout the pandemic, the study said.

Thus, the scientists found that the death rate from COVID-19 is 1.15% in high-income countries, but significantly lower in low-income countries – 0.23%.

According to experts, a higher mortality rate in developed countries is associated with a large number of elderly residents: the risk of death from coronavirus doubles with increasing age every eight years. In patients under 40 years of age, the ratio reaches about 0.1%, and for people over 80 years old – 5% or more.

Experts examined 175 scientific papers and data from 10 tests for antibodies, taking into account seroreversion – a gradual decrease in the number of antibodies, due to which the estimate of the proportion of deaths from the number of infected people may be overestimated.

According to the Worldometer website, more than 46 million cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the world, more than 1.2 million people have died, and more than 33 million patients have recovered.

In Russia, over the past day, 18,257 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in 84 regions.

sq.Also, over the past 24 hours, 238 deaths were recorded, 10,360 people were completely cured.
