At the end of the working week, the Governor of the Saratov Region Valery Radaev admitted that food prices are rising in the region.

He said: “The rise in food prices is one of the most resonant topics on today’s agenda. The President set the task of working out prompt measures to stabilize prices. In our region, the production of the main types of agricultural products exceeds consumption … But prices for sugar, vegetable oil, flour are growing on a par with all-Russian prices ”. This was reported by the governor’s press service with reference to the meeting held on Friday.

To this remark, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development Andrei Razborov said that in terms of the cost of the food basket, the Saratov Region ranks third in the Volga Federal District. But recently the price of vegetable oil and flour has increased due to the rise in prices for sunflower and grain in the world market. Sugar has risen in price due to the low yield of sugar beets.

Officials say the federal government has set ceiling selling prices for sunflower oil and sugar. The issue of establishing the marginal cost for flour is allegedly being resolved. Radaev instructed his subordinates to create a special commission, which should monitor compliance with the necessary measures to reduce prices in the local food market.
