In Moscow, sales of services of fitness centers and gyms fell by more than 50% over the year. At the same time, the average fitness check of Muscovites also decreased, falling by 37% in October. This information follows from the study of the operator of fiscal data “Platform OFD”, published on Saturday, October 17.
Analysts compared consumer demand for fitness center services and sporting goods from October 1 to October 15, 2020 with the same period in 2019.
“Sales volumes of services of fitness centers and gyms“ year-on-year ”decreased by 54%. The average purchase receipt amounted to 3,780 rubles, which is 37% lower than last year, “RIA Novosti cites their findings based on the research.
At the same time, sales of sporting goods increased by 20%, and the average check for their purchase reached 5680 rubles, an increase of 8%.
On October 1, the Association of Russian Fitness Industry Operators proposed to introduce cashback for using fitness services. The corresponding letter was sent to the government of the country. According to the association, 7 million Russians regularly play sports, but the restrictions associated with the coronavirus have greatly impacted the industry. At the moment, about 20% of entrepreneurs have been ruined.
According to experts, cashback will stimulate the demand for sports. Russians can get back up to 20% of the money spent on the subscription.
