Sakhalinstat: people began to live less often in the region, but longer

Sakhalinstat summed up the results of 2020 and published data on population change. It turned out that the number of permanent residents of the region has decreased, but there are more centenarians.

As of January 1, 2021, 485.6 thousand islanders permanently lived in the Sakhalin region, which is 2.6 thousand less than a year earlier.

More than half of them are of working age, only 57.1 percent. The youngest is only 19.9 percent, and the older is 23 percent. The proportion of the female population prevails – 51.8 percent.

Over the year, the number of centenarians has increased in the region – now there are 1,053 people. Of these, 20 people are over a hundred years old.

Earlier, MK on Sakhalin said that one had to go to Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands for the suitors. Exclusively because in the working age category, their number prevails over the number of women.
