Citizens of the Russian Federation will be able to visit Georgia from March 1 if they have a negative coronavirus test result. This was announced on Wednesday, February 24, by the Prime Minister of the Republic Irakli Garibashvili.

“Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus have been added to the list of countries from where citizens will be able to enter Georgia by air from March 1 with a negative PCR test result,” the prime minister said at a briefing.

It is noted that at the moment the existing regime remains on the land borders.

Previously, only citizens of the European Union, Bahrain, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Switzerland could enter the country with a document on the results of the PCR test. The rest of the foreigners were required to provide a certificate of completion of the full course of vaccination.

Since July 2019, the Russian authorities have banned flights to Georgia for an indefinite period. The Kremlin called this decision forced against the background of the unstable political situation in the republic. Georgia closed the land border with Russia in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first case of this infection in Georgia was registered on February 26, 2020. To date, 269,438 COVID-19 cases have been identified in the country, according to Worldometer. During the entire period of the epidemic, 3463 patients died, 263 257 were cured.
