Russians buy less alcohol

Sales of alcoholic beverages in Russia from March to July decreased by 15% compared to the same period last year, follows from the statistics of the operator of fiscal data “Taxcom”.

Thus, in March, Russians bought alcohol in retail a little more than in the previous year, but by mid-April, sales fell sharply. Subsequently, there was a gradual recovery in demand, but by mid-July it did not reach the level of the previous year.

The biggest decline in demand was for sparkling wines – sales fell by 30%. Demand for strong alcohol – vodka, cognac, rum, whiskey, etc. fell by 13%. At the same time, the average price for alcoholic beverages in these months was 2% lower compared to the same period last year.

The only alcoholic beverage that saw sales increase was cider, which was purchased more often by 7%. It is noted that the price for it decreased by 9% and amounted to 103 rubles per bottle, REN TV writes on Monday, August 10.

On August 7, it became known that the production of champagne in Russia in July fell by half compared to the same period in 2019, wine drinks – by 13.5 times.
