A new rise in the incidence of coronavirus in Russia is possible in the fall if the population does not comply with preventive measures, said Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute (CSRI) of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

The specialist noted that today there is no reason to talk about a probable rise in the incidence in the spring, since now there is a “stabilization phase”, and there is also a downward trend in the number of infections.

“We will definitely not reach the minimum in the spring, because both 8 thousand and 9 thousand are serious figures every day. I understand that this is not December, when there were almost 30 thousand. But the numbers are quite high <...> If we increase the coverage of vaccinations, then, naturally, the forecasts will be more rosy, “Gorelov was quoted by Interfax on Wednesday, March 31st.

The epidemiologist stressed that if the Russians do not follow the precautions, then the seasonal fall in the incidence rate is “definitely guaranteed.”

The day before, Rospotrebnadzor predicted the situation with the spread of coronavirus in the spring. So, according to Natalia Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, daily fluctuations in the incidence are still possible, but the growth is unlikely to reach the autumn peak.

She also pointed to a clear trend towards a decrease in morbidity due to vaccination and compliance with preventive measures, but recalled the need to use personal protective equipment.
