Residents of Belarusian cities took to action against the violence of the security forces

Several dozen people took to the streets of Minsk and lined up in a “chain of solidarity” along Independence Avenue in the residential district of Urechye. This was reported by a RIA Novosti correspondent.

It is noted that the audience spoke out against violence by the Belarusian security forces. Many of the protesters wore white clothing, people were holding flowers and waving them, and laid them on the side of the avenue. There were many women in the audience.

The protesters periodically applauded, and passing cars honked in support. At the same time, there were no police officers nearby. Later, military equipment passed along the avenue in the direction of the city center, which the protesters greeted with loud indignation.

Mass protests have been taking place in Belarus since August 9, on that day, presidential elections were held in the country. The current head of state Alexander Lukashenko, according to the CEC, received 80.08% of the vote, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was supported by 10.09% of voters. Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters did not recognize the results of the vote.

After that, people who disagreed with the election results began to take to the streets. They are opposed by the security forces. In the clashes, there are casualties on both sides.
