Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian Jews on Passover, noting the contribution of Russian Jewish organizations to preserving the traditions of their ancestors. This was announced on Saturday, March 27, at the Kremlin press service.
“It is important that the Jewish organizations of Russia are doing a lot to preserve the religious, national, cultural customs and traditions of their ancestors, pay tireless attention to strengthening the institution of the family and educating young people,” the head of state said in a telegram.
The Russian leader also noted their demanded work aimed at maintaining peace and harmony in society, as well as developing international humanitarian ties.
According to the President, the Passover holiday, especially revered by the followers of Judaism, has an enduring historical, spiritual and moral value.
“It draws believers to the events of ancient times – the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery, to the triumph of the ideals of freedom, goodness and justice,” Putin stressed.
Passover (Jewish Passover) is one of the main Jewish holidays. It commemorates the biblical exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. The celebration begins on the eve of the 15th day of the month of Nisan according to the Hebrew calendar (March-April). In Israel, the celebration lasts seven days, outside the country – a day more.
This year, the holiday is celebrated from Saturday evening, March 27, until Sunday evening, April 4.
