Former head of Rusnano Anatoly Chubais has been appointed special representative of the President of Russia for relations with international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals. The corresponding decree was signed on Friday, December 4, by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin press service reported.
As the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov explained, Chubais in his new position will not be included in the staff of the presidential administration and will not be a civil servant.
Chubais himself, commenting on the new appointment, wrote on Facebook that he “more than once had to do what is important for the country, although not very pleasant” for him personally.
“This time, it seems, the upcoming case is really significant for the country and interesting to me personally,” said the ex-head of Rusnano.
In turn, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, said that Chubais’s experience would be in demand as the president’s special envoy for relations with international organizations; he had repeatedly achieved results in high-level negotiations.
“I have no doubt that the vast professional experience of Anatoly Borisovich [Чубайса] will be successfully in demand at the new post, ”the TASS deputy is quoted as saying.
The day before, the Russian government approved a directive on Chubais’s resignation and recommended that the post be transferred to the former first deputy chairman of the board of the Military-Industrial Commission, Sergei Kulikov, for five years. Later, the board of directors elected Kulikov as chairman of the board of management company Rusnano.
