After the presidential elections in Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka has only two main “allies” – the ruling nomenklatura and security forces. This opinion was expressed on Monday, August 10, by political scientist Valery Karbalevich.

“As long as the uprising of the masses is not accompanied by a split in the nomenklatura, a crisis at the top, the state apparatus works flawlessly,” the website kp.ru quotes the expert.

According to the political scientist, after a night of protests, Belarusians still woke up in an old country with an old government. The political regime, which has been in the republic for 26 years, continues to be the leading one, Karbalevich noted.

Earlier on the same day, Lukashenka said that after the closure of polling stations, protesters tried to seize the authorities in two settlements of the Grodno region, according to the website aif.ru.

The day before, presidential elections were held in Belarus. According to the latest CEC data, Lukashenko won 80.08% of the vote, while candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 10.09%.

Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters refused to accept the official data of the country’s Central Election Commission, noting that headquarters data from polling stations in all regions of the republic show her results in 70-80%. Tikhanovskaya herself believes that she won the elections.
