The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam and 10 other politicians from the Hong Kong SAR and China.
According to US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin, sanctions have been imposed against individuals who threaten Hong Kong’s autonomy. “The US stands for the people of Hong Kong,” added Mnunich.
Relations between China and the United States continue to escalate as China enacts Hong Kong’s security law, which could be the end of the independence of the Hong Kong administrative region, and the United States imposes sanctions on Chinese companies. Among the people who fell under US sanctions were the Hong Kong Police Commissioner and several secretaries of state.
