Today, May 1, residents of Kalmykia, like residents of other cities of Russia, celebrate an international holiday – Labor Day (Spring and Labor Day), which was originally called the Day of International Workers’ Solidarity.
In 1886, on May 1, there was a strike of American workers in Chicago, during which demands were made that the working day should last 8 hours. Unfortunately, the strike ended in bloodshed and clashes with the police.
Some time later, in 1890, the day of international workers’ solidarity was celebrated for the first time in a number of countries.
Of course, for a long time this holiday was a symbol of revolution and struggle, often wore political overtones, and was marked by demonstrations. But gradually the holiday changed its main focus.
Today Labor Day is celebrated in 142 countries. Festivities, performances by artists and fairs are often organized on this day. For residents of Kalmykia, this is, first of all, one more day off, which can be spent with your family.
Congratulations to the residents of Kalmykia on this wonderful day! Peace Labor may!
