In the first days of the week of August 2020, Russian citizens began to buy fewer melons compared to the same period in 2019. This is stated in the study of the largest operator of fiscal data in Russia “Platform OFD”, which was reviewed by “RIA Novosti”.
It is noted that the company processed data on sales of watermelons and melons in network and non-chain retail. The average bill for buying melons in the period from 1 to 15 August was 157 rubles. This is 3% lower than in July 2020 and 9% higher than a year earlier.
At the same time, the number of purchases in the first half of August was 16% higher than in the first half of July, but 13% lower than in 2019. The average bill for buying melons in Moscow in the first two weeks of August amounted to 193 rubles, which is 4% lower than in July and 22% lower than last year’s figures.
In addition, the analysts reviewed the sales figures for watermelons. The average check for them was 166 rubles, which is 14% less than July values, but 35% more than in 2019. The total number of purchases is 61% higher than in the first half of July and 1% higher than last year.
In early August, Rospotrebnadzor spoke about the rules for choosing a melon. First of all, you need to pay attention to the condition of the fetus: it must be intact, without spots, cracks, dents. Cut fruit should not be purchased as the high sugar content makes the pulp an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.
