The All-Russian Memory Watch continues in the Smolensk region, in which more than 400 fighters of search units from 19 regions of Russia participate. According to the Search Association “Dolg” on May 1, during the search for soldiers of the Red Army who died in the battles of 1941, the remains of 99 soldiers were found. Also, 32 medallions were found, which will be sent to a special laboratory, where they will help to restore the names of the fallen heroes. The search engines found 5 signature items that also give a chance to establish the names of the soldiers.
The Memory Watch takes place in the Vyazemsky District of the Smolensk Region in the places of fierce battles in October 1941. Then, in early October, 37 divisions, 9 tank brigades, 31 artillery regiment of the RGK and the command of the 19th, 20th, 24th and 32nd armies of the Western and Reserve fronts were surrounded. Only the remnants of 16 divisions managed to get out of the encirclement. The Vyazemsky cauldron is considered one of the most terrible tragedies of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. There is still no unambiguous assessment of the losses of that time.
