The prosecutor’s office of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk opened a criminal case of negligence after the explosion of a gas cylinder in the basement of an apartment building.

During the inspection, it turned out that the day before the incident, a woman contacted the police and reported the smell of gas in the house, but her statement was ignored.

“A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence),” the website of the Sakhalin Oblast Prosecutor’s Office said on Thursday, August 6.

The head of the OMVD of Russia for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk was introduced to a proposal to eliminate violations of the law. Also, the prosecutor’s office found that the management company did not timely inspect the basement, as a result, the storage of a gas cylinder there was left without attention.

“A submission was made to the address of LLC” ZhEU-2 “, which was considered and satisfied, work was carried out to clean the basement from dangerous items,” the message says.

An employee of the management company was disciplined

In early July, an oxygen cylinder exploded in the basement of a five-story building on Popovich Street. As a result, there was a partial destruction of the floor between the basement and one of the apartments on the ground floor.

The governor of the region, Valeriy Limarenko, reported that the explosion was due to the actions of a man who quarreled with his wife and turned on the gas. As a result of the incident, only one person was injured – the culprit of the incident.
