This is the third day in a row that the country has more than 1,200 dead in 24 hours, according to the university, which updates its figures continuously.

By far the most affected in the world in absolute value, the United States has a total of 151,826 deaths linked to Covid-19.

The first world power has also identified 72,238 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours while the total number of infections diagnosed on American soil since the start of the pandemic is almost 4.5 million (including 1.4 million people declared cured).

After improving in late spring, the United States has seen the epidemic start to rise again since the end of June, especially in the south and west of the country.

Florida is of particular concern. She recorded 253 new deaths from the new coronavirus on Thursday, a record in this tourist state.

The “Sunshine State” recently overtook New York – long the epicenter of the American epidemic in the spring – in the number of cases recorded. It is second behind California, whose population is twice that of Florida.

In this worrying context, the south-eastern state is preparing for the arrival of a tropical storm, which will force the closure of certain Covid-19 testing centers as of Thursday, the authorities announced.
