Nazarbayev congratulates Lukashenka on winning the presidential elections

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on his re-election to the post of President of Belarus. Congratulatory telegram, published on August 10 on Nazarbayev’s website.

“Having voted for your candidacy, the Belarusian people once again confirmed their choice in favor of continuing the policy of economic reforms, increasing the social welfare of the population and strengthening the international authority of the Republic of Belarus,” the telegram says.

Nazarbayev noted the personal contribution of Lukashenko to the development of relations between Kazakhstan and Belarus and stressed that it is based on “the traditions of friendship and mutual respect.” He stressed that Kazakhstan is aimed at further developing and deepening ties with Minsk, both within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and in a bilateral format.

“I highly value and value our friendship based on trust and mutual understanding. I am convinced that our fruitful joint work in previous years will continue to serve as a reliable foundation for the development of multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of our countries, ”Nazarbayev added.

The presidential elections in Belarus took place on August 9. According to preliminary data from the CEC, the current leader of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, is gaining 80.23% of the vote, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 9.9%. The third place was taken by the “candidate against all”. The turnout in the elections was 84%, Gazeta.ru writes.

Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters did not recognize the official data of the Central Election Commission and believes that data from polling stations in all regions of the state show her results in 70-80%.

On Sunday evening, unauthorized protests began in Minsk and other cities of Belarus. As a result, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, about 3 thousand people were detained. The Investigative Committee of the Republic opened criminal cases on the facts of riots and violence against employees of the internal affairs bodies.
