The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) will take place at multiple outdoor venues in New York City, rather than the indoor arena of Barclays Center. This decision was made by the organizers due to coronavirus infection, writes Deadline on August 7.

“After close consultations with health authorities, it became clear that outdoor performances with or without limited audiences would be more feasible and safer than indoor events,” MTV quoted the publication as saying.

It is noted that next year the show will return to the Barclays Center.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on August 30. This year, the largest number of nominations – nine each – went to American performers Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga. They are followed by Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, who have received six nominations.

Last August, singer Billie Eilish revealed that she slept through the MTV Video Music Awards and thanked her for the awards she received.
