The container ship “Sparta-3” got stuck in the ice in the Yenisei Bay during a commercial flight. TASS writes about this on Thursday, December 17, citing a source in the shipping industry.
“The motor ship“ Sparta-3 ”, the flagship of Oboronlogistics, <…> performing a commercial voyage, following from the port of Dudinka to Arkhangelsk with commercial cargo, got up in the ice on December 13. On board, fuel and water supplies are limited or are running out, the crew is struggling with icing. <…> The devices are frozen, ”said the agency’s interlocutor.
According to him, attempts to chop the ice around the ship and free it were unsuccessful. The crew is waiting for approval and the arrival of a large icebreaker, the source said.
The Oboronlogistics company, which is the operator of the ship, clarified that there is no question of a threat to the life of the crew members.
“As of 18:00 on December 17, 2020, due to the deteriorating ice conditions, the vessel is drifting in the Yenisei Gulf. The company’s management has established interaction with FSUE Atomflot. In the coming days, a nuclear icebreaker will be dispatched to escort the vessel to a safe for navigation area, ”the company said.
According to the operator, the vessel has the necessary supplies of food and fuel and lubricants. The logistics center specialists keep in touch with the captain on an hourly basis.
In early September 2019, the Swedish ship Malmö fell into the ice near the Spitsbergen archipelago and could not get out. 16 passengers were evacuated by helicopter.
