More than 150 protesters against COVID-19 measures detained in Germany

More than 150 people were detained in Berlin during the rally against the tightening of anti-corruption measures. On Wednesday, April 21, the publication Welt reports.

As specified by law enforcement officers, they used pepper gas in Berlin against a group of people who participated in the action.

In the center of the city, a rally was held with the participation of about 8 thousand citizens who opposed the amendments to the law on protection against infectious diseases, discussed in the Bundestag. The protesters were on the street without personal protective equipment, which required the police to stop the event.

Nevertheless, most of the protesters ignored the call to disperse, clashes with police officers took place.

On April 16, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the preparation of the fourth package of amendments to the law on epidemiological protection of the population. They provide for the introduction of uniform tough rules throughout the country in the event of a worsening situation with the coronavirus, previously decisions on restrictions were made by the federal states.

It was clarified that with an increase in the number of cases to 100 people per 100 thousand of the population per week, the German authorities will introduce new restrictive measures. Employees at various companies will provide one to two COVID-19 tests per week.

According to the Worldometer portal, almost 3.2 million cases of coronavirus have been registered in Germany, while more than 81 thousand people have died from the effects of the infection.
