Montenegro has become a leader in Europe in the spread of coronavirus. This was reported by the Montenegrin portal Vijesti on October 3.
According to the resource, citing data from European statistical centers, the spread of coronavirus infection in the country was 1699 people per 100 thousand of the population.
Armenia is in second place, Spain is in third.
At the same time, it is argued that the official data of the authorities on the incidence in the country may be underestimated by three times.
“Considering the level of public organization, the quality of the medical service and the personnel structure, there is no justification for such a number of infected people,” said epidemiologist Novica Vuyoshevich.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of Montenegro, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the country has reached 11,690 people, 288 patients have been hospitalized over the past day. In total, 7,618 people recovered during the spread of COVID-19, 172 died.
On the eve of the tourist season and parliamentary elections, the Montenegrin authorities announced victory over COVID-19, declaring the country a “coronavirus-free zone” in May. The borders were open, tourists were required to pass a coronavirus test to enter. On August 7, Montenegro opened its borders to Russians.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova urged citizens who are going to visit Montenegro to take into account the general regime of the coronavirus epidemic introduced in the country since July 21 when planning a trip.
