The Russian Ministry of Sports is going to revive the position of a state coach that existed in the USSR, said the head of the Ministry of Sports, Oleg Matytsin.
He noted that last year, for the first time for each sports federation, staff units were provided to work with national teams.
“We are also working on the issue of introducing a full-time position of a state coach, whose task will be to coordinate the development of the sport and ensure communication with the ministry on all issues that do not relate to the training of national teams directly,” Matytsin said at the final board of the ministry.
The position of a state coach has existed in the USSR since 1973. Among his tasks were the coordination of the actions of the head coaches of the national teams of the country, voluntary sports societies and departments. The state trainer was responsible for the development of the sport that is accountable to him.
