Alejandro Cossio, an entrepreneur from the Mexican state of Veracruz, has purchased 2 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, El Financiero writes.

Earlier, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador allowed regional authorities and private companies to independently purchase COVID-19 vaccines.

“I already have 2 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine <...>, I welcome the president’s decision <...>, we are waiting for the corresponding decree to appear and, along with it, registration [вакцины] the Mexican regulator, that is, Cofepris, ”the entrepreneur told the publication.

Cossio said he is negotiating the sale of the drug with authorities in at least seven states, as well as with hospital suppliers and some medical institutions.

Earlier, the head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev said that Mexico would soon register the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.

Mexico became interested in the Russian vaccine back in August 2020. In the summer, the country’s foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said that he had discussed the possibility of obtaining the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and the course of clinical trials of the drug with Russian Ambassador Viktor Coronelli.
