The American company Mastercard announced its intention in 2021 to start carrying out operations with several cryptocurrencies within its payment system of the same name. This was reported by the press service of the financial corporation.
“Right now, we are preparing for the future of cryptocurrency and payments, announcing that this year Mastercard will begin supporting (transactions – Ed.) With certain cryptocurrencies, made directly through our network,” – said the executive vice president of digital assets, blockchain -technology and partnership of Raj Damodaran.
It is noted that Mastercard is ready to conduct transactions with only a few cryptocurrencies. We are talking, for example, about stablecoins, which are backed by real assets. The corporation believes that it is important to maintain the stability of the digital currency so that people can pay with such money in everyday life.
In addition, Mastercard is now actively cooperating with several central banks around the world. So in the future it is possible that they will launch new digital currencies called CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency).
