Columbia firefighters in South Carolina were forced to end a huge pool party with hundreds of people breaking sanitary rules.

Authorities intervened late Saturday afternoon after receiving calls from concerned citizens, reports local daily The State.

“It was almost like Mardi Gras. I saw a crowd in the pool, on the sides and above the pool, ”says Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.

The latter claims that even without the problems associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, there would have been too many people in the pool.

Firefighters have recommended revelers to follow social distancing rules in the future.

The pool was near the University of South Carolina where 620 students contracted the novel coronavirus.
