Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro voted in elections to the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) of the republic on Sunday, December 6. The video from the polling station appeared on the air of the Telesur TV channel.

The head of state arrived with his wife to vote at about 13:30 local time (20:30 Moscow time). To receive the ballot, Maduro went through the biometric identification procedure, and also left a thumbprint of his right hand in the register of voters.

In addition, Maduro said that on election day he put on the watch that Argentine football player Diego Maradona had given him earlier, as it “brings good luck.” According to him, he put them on so that they would help not only him, but the whole of Venezuela, writes TASS.

On Sunday, December 6, regular parliamentary elections are held in the country, according to the results of which 277 deputies will be elected (110 more than in the current convocation).

On December 1, Nicolas Maduro announced that he was ready to resign if the opposition wins the parliamentary elections. The politician stressed that his fate is in the hands of the Venezuelans.

Venezuela has been in economic and political crisis for several years. In January 2019, against the backdrop of prolonged protests, opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself head of state. It was recognized, in particular, by the USA, Canada, Brazil and Greece.

A number of other states, including Russia, China, and Mexico, have supported Maduro.
