President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko convened an urgent meeting with members of the Security Council of the republic amid reports of the detention of employees of the private military company (PMC) “Wagner” in the suburbs of Minsk. This was announced on Wednesday, July 29, by the BelTA agency.

“I invited you in order to deal with this, one might say, an emergency that happened tonight. You cannot name it otherwise, ”Lukashenka said.

The head of the State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik confirmed that the detainees were employees of the Wagner PMC. He clarified that the arrest took place at about 05:30 (the same as Moscow time).

Lukashenka instructed to immediately apply to the relevant structures of Russia for explanations in connection with the current situation.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that 32 militants of a foreign private military company were detained in a sanatorium near Minsk. Another person was detained later in the south of Belarus.
