On Thursday, August 6, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke approvingly of those citizens who decided to vote early in the presidential elections.

“I am very closely monitoring the voting situation (early – Ed.). It is dignified, beautiful, people are coming, they do not bother anyone <...> We have polling stations, everyone goes there. And we must ensure this process, ”BelTA agency quotes him.

The Belarusian leader noted that the authorities should provide their citizens with the opportunity to vote calmly and festively, without fear of interference in their personal choice.

Earlier, on August 4, the country began early voting in the presidential elections, which will continue until the main election day.

On the same day, the officers’ meetings of the Armed Forces of Belarus announced their full support for the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko.

The elections will be held on August 9. The Central Election Commission registered five people as candidates – Andrei Dmitriev, Anna Kanopatskaya, the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Sergei Cherechenya. Two applicants, Viktor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo, were refused registration.

If he wins, this will be the sixth term for Lukashenka.
