The owner of the English football club Liverpool John Henry has made an apology to the fans for his actions aimed at entering the Super League.

“I want to apologize to all Liverpool fans and supporters for the rift I have caused in the past 48 hours. It goes without saying, but it should be said that the proposed project will never survive without the support of the fans, ”the words of the appeal on April 21 are quoted on the club’s official website.

Henry also apologized to the head coach of the club Jurgen Klopp, his players and all those who work at Liverpool.

“I hope you will understand that even when we make mistakes, we try to work in the best interests of your club. In this endeavor, I have let you down. Again, sorry, I am the only one responsible for the unnecessary negativity shown over the past couple of days. I won’t forget that, ”Henry said.

On the night of April 19, 12 clubs announced the creation of a new European tournament – the Super League.

The announcement of the new tournament drew backlash from UEFA, as well as UEFA member football associations and the top divisions of the football leagues in England, Italy and Spain. The International Football Federation (FIFA) also condemned the project.

UEFA officials said that all clubs participating in the Super League will be barred from competing in all other domestic, European and world competitions.

On April 20, English clubs announced their withdrawal from the tournament. Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, as well as the Spanish clubs Atletico and Barcelona have begun their withdrawal from the Super League.

At the moment, discussion of the Superleague project has been suspended.
